Participatory sport

© Jennifer Stern© Jennifer SternThere are so many fun sports available for both tourists and local residents. You’ll find tennis courts and squash clubs all over, there are more golf courses than you can shake a stick at, and even the relatively obscure sport of polo is well catered for.

If you’re serious about your sport, or just learning, you may like to enrol in a training clinic or one of the many interesting races & competitions, including the Argus Cycle Tour, which is the largest individually timed sporting event in the world, the ultra-scenic Two Oceans Marathon, which claims to be the most beautiful race in the world, a mountain bike race through the Kruger National Park and more. Some of the classic races and competitions you may want to enter include running, road cycling and mountain biking races that are up there with the best in the world. Competitive paddling is also big in South Africa, with river marathons, surfski races and white water rodeo. Dragon boat races, too, are fun.
