Meteorites & meteorite craters

It is almost certain that, over the millennia, meteorites have landed in many different parts of the world, but the evidence has mostly been obliterated by consequent geological activity, or hidden under dense forest or water features. Fortunately, though, southern Africa has some of the most well preserved meteorite features on the planet, including the Tswaing and Vredefort Dome meteorite impact zones, both within about an hour’s drive of Johannesburg, and the Hoba Meteorite in Namibia.
